Welcome all Mean Green fans! We have an exciting year ahead of us. We are welcoming back our Model A, that is now all electric thanks to the Engineering Department at The University of North Texas. The spirit of this school depends on the students and Talons is and always will be here to keep this alive. We strive to keep and make known the traditions for The University of North Texas, as well as foster the new ones. We welcome all who would like to be a part of this organization. When you join Talons you are following where many students have since 1926.
It is the spirit of Talons that unifies it. The collective force of the individual Talons coming together as one exemplifies the organization's goals.
Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.
Talons embodies the traditions of old, the progress of today, and the plans for the future.
Talons is the home to many of UNT's traditions. In the fall 1970 football season, we introduced Boomer The Cannon. More than forty years later, Boomer continues to make a notable appearance at all home football games.
Homecoming Bonfire
"Bonfire is wonderful experience. It gives Talons a chance to come closer together, work as a team, and bond together as a family. We're all there with a similar purpose: continuing the tradition of the homecoming bonfire. It's a responsibility we have held since 1960 and as safe-keepers of the campus traditions, we take pride in the work we do. On burn down night, there is no greater feeling than lighting the bonfire and hearing the crowd of students cheer, knowing that all the hard work you put in is appreciated by your peers."
- Jerri Elliot, Bonfire Head
Motor Pool
"I'm really excited to bring such an iconic symbol of spirit and tradition back to the UNT campus. It's been quite some time since the Mean Green Machine has been so prominent on campus, but I'm hoping we can make it seem like its presence never disappeared in the first place."
- Frank Telesca, Motor Pool Head
"We all come together in Talons for one unifying reason: To support our school and uphold the traditions that keep it great. When you join Talons, that's what you think you're getting into, but along the way you become a family."
- Stacy Cenal, Recruitment Head
A Message From The Recruitment Head
There are no organizations on campus like Talons. Many of them have been established on spirit, most of them preach the idea of service and philanthropy, but Talons is solely responsible for tradition. Tradition is extremely important to any university. It sets them apart from other schools and brings the student body, along with the alumni together. When you join Talons you become part of that Tradition. We shine a green light of victory after a game, we create an atmosphere of camaraderie with a bonfire, we hold part of the past today with the Mean Green Machine, we celebrate our football games with a blast from Boomer, and more.
If you have a passion for school spirit and want to bring that passion to other people, there is no better group of people for you to be a part of than the Talons of UNT. It is our goal and purpose to ensure a continuing atmosphere of spirit and service to the University of North Texas, and we want you to be a part of it.
If you have any questions on how you can get involved please contact the recruitment head, Stacy Cenal.

Our Model A "Mean Green Machine" has been transformed to an all electric car. The Mean Green Machine is currently receiving its interior and exterior make over. We are still taking donations to help with repainting and to clean up the interior. We are also working on cleaning up the old engine and retiring it in the new student union along side of the Curfew/Spirit Bell. If you would like to donate please e-mail the Treasurer, Joe Bessner.

Once a Talon, Always a Talon.
The Talons Alumni Facebook Page offers a way for everyone to keep in touch. We hope to see you there!
Every semester, the Unity head is in charge of creating a newsletter that showcases news and events relating to Talons for the Alumni. It is a great way to communicate important news and changes. While we are creating our memories now, the Alumni has a chance to look back and remember theirs.
When you become a Talon, you leave behind a legacy of spirit and tradition. We would like to formally thank all the Talons of the past for keeping the traditions and spirit alive.
